ed’s big adventure

Alright. Now that I have had time to absorb everything about this weekend. I’ll give you my adventure in buying a car.

We got to the dealership about 10am. Right from the get go, I was very intimidated. All the salesmen were circling like sharks at the main door. I really had no idea where to park. As I pulled in, a salesman motioned for me to open the window. I rolled down the window, and he asked if there was anything he could help us with.

“No, we’re just looking”, said my father in law.

Ryan, the salesman gave us a card, and asked what we were looking for, so he could point us in the right direction.

We told him, “4×4, 10 grand is the limit.”

He found a nice Suzuki Vitara, and went to take it up to get gas. Course he ran out of gas before he made it to the station. So after about 15 minutes, he came back and we took it out for a spin. It ran great, and there was only “one owner – an old Italian man…riiiight”. I told him I had a question that wasn’t about the truck, he nodded.

I ask him, “Do you have a big red balloon? Its for my wife, its her birthday.”

So we get the paperwork started on the Suzuki, and we move into the waiting area to watch some Veggie Tales. After what seemed like 4 hours, Ryan comes back in and says he has to talk to me about a different vehicle. Now I’m even more nervous, because Robin and Brian stayed in the waiting room. He says he has something 1000 times better. He brings me out to a 2007 Ford Escape. Its $30 more a month, and its fully loaded. 6 disk cd-changer, trailer hitch, leather seats, motherfuckin sunroof, etc…

I say “ok”. At this point, I’m still very very nervous, but Brian comes out to save me. He really likes the truck. In fact he was looking at it for Robin.

Ryan notices it like 12:30 and tells us to take the truck and go and get some lunch. We go to KFC about a 1/2 mile down the road. As well pull into the dealership, there’s Ryan with a bag of bows. He said he had it written into the contract, and took some petty cash to get them. He also got a great card for Crystal, and signed it for the dealership.

Now its time for the finance guy. Its all a blur at this point, I can’t even remember his name. All I can remember is signing lots of paperwork, and asking for a hug with outstretched arms. he backed away from me. After we shook hands, he said,

“Wait, I have something for you. Instead of coming back in a week with your registration, and taxes, I’m gonna roll it into your monthly payment. It only adds $9 a month. Do you want me to do that?”

“Yes.”

So we sign more paperwork, and that’s that. At about 3:30ish we pulled out of the lot. Now I’m a bundle of nerves convinced Crystal is gonna hate this truck, and make me take it back. We left so fast, I left my key ring there with my house keys on it. (we went back like 20 minutes later to pick them up.)

So until Feb 7th 2015, I’m a proud owner of a 2007 Ford Escape. I’m still tense about this.

Today is the first day Crystal got to drive it for more than a few minutes, I hope she had a good drive in. I’m very happy that she loves it. *phew*!

You are a good guy you know, a really good guy. That’s awesome you did that for her. I wish we could get financing for a car, alas he needs a job first.
