the one where he’s learning new things

It’s been a crazy week here at Casa McBride. With my parents down, it was go go go. It was actually nice to do absolutly nothing yesterday.
Until, I decided it would be very cool to install Ubuntu. Well lets just say, it is cool to install Ubuntu, its also a HUGE learning experience. I haven’t used command line since I was in school, and it was DOS. Come on people command line is dead! Long live the GUI! Least with Linux, the OS actually recognises all my hardware, even Windows couldn’t find all of my shit right away.
Its been a… something, trying to figure out how to install World of Warcraft on this machine. I think I am getting now. We’re at 79%. Then there’s the patches. That should take another couple of hours to download as well. But its all good, if I can get it to play, that’s half the battle right?
Now as most of you guys know, Monday was my birthday. I had a pretty awesome day. I got some pretty cool loot. From my high school friend, Mich, I got something off of my think geek wishlist; Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. From my Parents I got 2 Sheep skin seat covers for the Escape. (They are so very soft and comfy) From my wife, I got this kick ass TARDIS/BTTF shirt. My inlaws (and Crystal), chipped in to get me a Longboard! Everyone says I am going to kill myself on it. But I don’t think so, because I don’t go fast on it. So far I’ve only gone on the bike path with it.
Ok, back to working on Ubuntu.

Ok..I do know computers but I’m not that into that stuff…what is Ubuntu???
ubuntu is an operating system, like windows xp
Ubuntu sounds like a drug name. Maybe something for cholesterol.
The concept of a new system scares the poop out of me.
it was a bit scary, but you just have to go with the flow. i got tweetdeck working right off the bat
its all good
ubuntu freaks me out too. I am sooooo a PC..lol…(windows square, that’s me!)
We actually used it first via the LiveCD option, where it boots off a cd and you can play with it, and it’s got an “install now” button on your desktop. Installing it was sort of like installing WordPress – answer 2 or 3 questions and it’s done. even with all the issues we had getting Warcraft running again, chances are pretty good I won’t switch back to XP, since I’ve got a couple of graphics programs to use, WoW, the internet, and email, which is really all I use anyway
